ENERGY ACTION NETWORK

Mayor Richard M. Daley announces the Energy Action Network (EAN) at a press conference on November 2, 2009. EAN brings together community organizations, utility companies and not-for-profit groups who are committed to creating energy efficient communities throughout Chicago. EAN partners include the Field Museum, Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, Northern Illinois Energy Project, ComEd and Peoples Gas. Through their contributions, EAN sites are able to expand the support they provide to residents. The idea for EAN came out of the Chicago Climate Action Plan (CCAP) as part of an overall goal to reduce energy consumption and lower greenhouse gas emissions. The Energy Action Network was created to expand winter heating assistance services in neighborhoods and encourage residents to save money year-round through energy efficiency measures and programs. The EAN enters its second year of programming and for 2010-11 there are 21 EAN sites and 6 EAN alumni sites that include faith-based institutions, housing organizations and other community-based organizations with experience working in and serving Cook County communities. Apply for a range of services, including the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), the Share the Warmth Program and ComEd’s Residential Special Hardship Fund at any of these locations.
